Reception Starters 2020

Home Learning - Week Commencing 01.03.21

Well done everyone for another week of hard work in school and at home. We are so pleased that this will be our last week of home learning! As it is our last week, we will not be following a topic but simply revising our literacy and number skills through our activities. This will hopefully better prepare us for returning to school next week.

To help us settle back into school next week, we will not be introducing any new concepts but spending lots of time with the children during their play to help them settle back into the routine of school. There will be a big focus on well-being and spending quality time together as a class.

Please note that we will not be sending new reading books home during our first week back. This will begin the following week once the children have had time to settle back into school.

Thank you to all of our parents and carers for your support during these unusual circumstances. Your kind words and co-operation really has made a world of difference! We cannot wait to see you all next week and welcome the children back to school!

Just a reminder that our class will start school at 8:45am and finish at 2:45pm. Please ensure that children are dropped off and collected no earlier/later than these times.

Have a lovely week and we will see you on Monday 8th March! smiley

Home Learning - Week Commencing 22.02.2021

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed a break from home schooling!

Our topic this week is Pancake Day and Healthy Eating. We will be having a go at writing instructions on how to make pancakes, making veggie guessing bags and lots of other fun activities to help us learn all about the foods that help to keep us healthy.

In Maths we will continue to focus on numbers up to 8, however we will also be learning how to measure length, height and time through lots of physical tasks such as building towers and a little bit of PE!

Just a reminder that our zoom sessions are as follows:

9:15am - Explanation of home learning activities

10:00am - Phonics

2:00pm - Story time and sharing news

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday morning and remember we are here if you need us! Take care and stay safe. Hopefully, there's not long to go now!

Home Learning - Week Commencing 08.02.21

Well done for another successful week of home learning! You really have been superstars. This is our last week before half term and you can all have a well earned break!

Our topic this week is All Around the World. We will be singing hello in lots of different languages, researching animals from around the world and having a go at writing our names in Chinese! Our weekly learning tasks are detailed in the document further down the page.

We also have Internet Safety Day on Tuesday 9th February. There is a PowerPoint presentation below all about Smartie the Penguin. Sharing this story with your child is a great way to help them understand how to keep themselves safe when using the internet.

Just a reminder that our zoom sessions take place at 9:15am, 10:00am and 2:00pm.

We hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. If there is anything that we can do to help, please get in touch.

Congratulations again to our children and parents on another successful week of home learning, you really are doing a brilliant job! Well done to the children in school too, you are doing so well! Also to the staff supporting our children in school, a BIG thank you!

Our topic this week is Superheroes! Our community is full of real life superheroes so I am sure this will inspire lots of lovely conversations and reminders of how important it is to be kind to each other and ourselves. We will be learning all about WOW words in our Literacy tasks and in Maths we will be exploring ways to make 6, 7 and 8 through lots of practical activities. There will be more new sounds to learn during phonics!

Can you believe we are into February already?! Hopefully it won't be much longer until we are all back together in our classroom. In the meantime, please keep in touch.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Richardson, Miss Hinton and Mrs Wareing

Home Learning - Week Commencing 25.01.2021

Well done again to all of our children and parents for your hard work this week. You are all doing an amazing job! We hope you had a chance to rest over the weekend and spend some quality time together.

Our learning tasks for this week are detailed in the document below. Our topic this week is Rhyming! This lends itself beautifully to lots of our favourite stories that the children are already familiar with, such as The Gruffalo, Zog and Room on the Broom to name a few!

Remember to keep up your daily reading when you can and continue to send us any pictures of your learning at home. These do not have to be linked to the activities set in our daily tasks but could be opportunities such as helping to set the table for dinner, keeping your bedroom tidy or even learning to ride your bike! These are all fantastic skills to be learning during your time at home!

Keep up the hard work, look after each other and remember we are here if you need us.

Take care,

Mrs Richardson, Miss Hinton and Mrs Wareing

We have survived another week! Well done to all of the children for their hard work, whether they are in school or at home, you are all fantastic and we are so proud of you! A big thank you to our parents for your continued support and kind words. We understand how difficult life is for everyone at the moment so your support really does mean a lot.

Our topic this week is Traditional Tales. These stories are fantastic for developing language and communication as well as exploring lots of PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development). In Maths we will be looking at how to make up the number 5 i.e. 4 an 1, 3 and 2 etc. Our weekly learning tasks are detailed in the document below.

Don't forget that there are home learning packs available for anyone who is unable to access online learning. Please let myself or the school office know and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

We look forward to seeing you all this week and please keep in touch!

Please note that Phonics Play is currently free to access. This is a fantastic website with lots of games that the children can access independently. We use it lots in class and the children are familiar with it. Reception children should focus on phase 2 sounds and set 1 and 2 of phase 3. The website is www.phonicsplay.co.uk
