Applying for Nursery

Nursery Admission

Applications are accepted from parents who live within the Sefton Local Authority boundary. A child's name may be placed on the official waiting list on or after his/her second birthday. Children are admitted to the nursery class at the start of the half term after which their third birthday falls. All three year olds are entitled to 15 hours per week funded Nursery provision.

If parents meet certain eligibility criteria (based on income) they can request that their child attends Nursery for 30 hours a week (i.e. full days, five days a week) on a fully funded basis. This offer is made only to children in their final pre-school year (i.e. those who have their third birthday on or before 31st August may attend for 30 hours a week for three terms prior to starting Reception Class.) For more information please visit: www.gov.uk/30-hours-free-childcare

Parents/carers of children who do not meet the eligibility criteria for a funded 30-hour place may choose to pay for an additional 15 hours (i.e. in addition to the funded 15 hours that all parents/carers of pre-school children are entitled to.) The current cost of the additional 15 hours is £62.50 per week. We only offer the full additional 15 hours and not any fewer.

The 15-hour entitlement for children who are three on or before 31st August can be taken either from Monday morning to Wednesday lunchtime or from Wednesday lunchtime to Friday.

The 15-hour entitlement for younger children who start at the beginning of the term after which their third birthday falls can be taken as either mornings (8.45 a.m. – 11.45 a.m.) or afternoons (12.15 p.m.  – 3.15 p.m.)

Admissions to the nursery class are staggered over the first few weeks of term.

The nursery class size for each session is limited to 26 children.

If there are insufficient places for those children on the waiting list priority will be given to children who:

a)         Have brothers or sisters who attend the school.

b)         Will have three terms or less in nursery before admission to school.

c)         Have been on the waiting list longest.

d)         Reside closest (in terms of walking distance) to the school.

ATTENDANCE AT THE GRANGE NURSERY DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PLACE IN OUR RECEPTION CLASS. WE ARE PERMITTED TO HAVE OVER FIFTY CHILDREN ON ROLL IN OUR NURSERY BUT ONLY THIRTY IN OUR RECEPTION CLASS
