Our Governing Board
As Governors of The Grange Primary School, we would like to welcome you to our webpage. We hope you find it interesting and useful!
In our role as governors we have a vital part to play to ensure the school provides every child with the best possible education and we are committed to supporting the school in raising standards and attainment.
We act as a “critical friend” to the Headteacher and Leadership Team and evaluate and support their role in managing the school.
We ensure the school is accountable to the children and parents it serves and to its local community and to those who fund and maintain it, as well as to the staff it employs.
More about the role of The Governing Board
The Governing Board’s core focus is to ensure the school functions well and has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction.
The Governing Board holds the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff.
The Governing Board oversees the financial performance of the school, ensuring that its money is well spent.
The Governing Board reconstituted in February 2015 in line with the statutory guidance from the Department of Education May 2014. The Instrument of Government Determines how many governors make up the School Governing Board and how the Governors can represent the broad range of groups within the school’s community.
Our Instrument of Government specifies the Governing Board shall consist of the following:
3 Parent Governors
1 Local Authority Governor
1 Staff Governor
1 Headteacher Governor
5 Co-opted Governors
The standard term of office for a governor is four years. The Chair and Vice Chair are elected every four years at the first meeting of the academic year.
Parent Governors
Parent Governors must be a parent or carer of a pupil(s) that attended the school or who are currently a parent of a child(ren) who are school age. They are elected by the parents and carers of the school’s pupils.
Local Authority (LA) Governors
Local Authority Governors are elected by the Local Authority (LA). Any eligible person who is committed to the school and excellent governance can be elected.
Staff Governors
Staff Governors are elected by the school staff. Staff governors must be employees of the school and can be either teaching or non-teaching staff.
Co-opted Governors
Co-opted governors are appointed by the governing board. They are people who in the opinion of the governing board, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.
The Governing Board meet once every term and also operates through committees which also meet once a term, except for the Pay and Performance Management Committee, which meets once in the autumn term.
